Tammy Tibbetts is Co-Founder & CEO of She’s the First (STF), a global girls' rights nonprofit. STF teams up with grassroots organizations to make sure girls everywhere are educated, respected, and heard. Over the past 14 years, She’s the First has created lasting change for girls’ education and rights, impacting 563,741 girls by working alongside 685 community organizations and 133 girl-led clubs in 42 countries.

Tammy is also the co-author of Impact: A Step-by-Step Plan to Create the World You Want to Live In (PublicAffairs).

As a first-generation college graduate from The College of New Jersey, Tammy had the idea for She’s the First while she was working at Hearst Magazines, for the #1 teen magazine brands, as a pioneering web editor and Seventeen’s first social media editor. She speaks regularly about her entrepreneurship and leadership experiences, including in three TEDx talks. Tammy has been recognized by TODAY, The Drew Barrymore Show, Time, Marie Claire, and Fast Company’s Most Creative People in Business and received a DVF People's Voice Award from Diane von Furstenberg.

Tammy is a proud member of TCNJ’s Board of Trustees. She resides in Brooklyn with her husband, son, and mini poodle.

A Note from Tammy

Hello! Since you’ve stepped into my online home, I wanted to give you a warm welcome and thank you for your interest in my story and work. Before you get to the “official” bio, here’s what I most want you to know:

  • I don’t believe in letting others define your limits. My passion for building girls' power traces back to being voted “Most Shy” in my high school yearbook and all the insecurities that led to that. I am now outspoken about my beliefs—and passionate about helping others to define life on their own terms.

  • Becoming a mom transformed my life. I love my job, but I love motherhood the most. My quest to raise a feminist boy expands how I approach my work for gender equality. I became a mom when I was ready, at age 36. Every person deserves the opportunity to decide if and when they want to have children, and every parent deserves quality maternal healthcare, paid leave, and a support system. My activism for these issues comes from an even deeper place now.

  • I’ve been the full-time CEO of She’s the First for more than a decade! I have grown the organization from a staff of 1 and $0 into a global team of 11, plus interns, across two country offices, with a multi-million dollar budget. I stand confidently in that expertise but also am aware of my limitations and share power across the organization.

  • Impact is the space I’ve carved out for myself, along with my She’s the First co-founder Christen Brandt, to connect with you on your philanthropy and activism goals. It is the conversation we might have over a cup of coffee.
